Discover: A Foreign Marriage

Now when I say foreign marriage… I imagine many pictures pop up in your head, but the "foreign" I mean is one of the "GREEK" kind…

We’ve all seen and enjoyed My Big Fat Greek Wedding!  Well, my sister is this movie in reverse! My little sister Amy began her adult stint in this world as a flight attendant, ended up marrying a pilot from Greece, (yup…just like the marriage you saw in the movie) had two adorable little Greek babies, and has Greek in-laws who spoke not a word of English, but also had no delusions of life with Windex!  Amy lived in the states for all of her 39 years of life and was then laid off from her Flight Attending, and her husband’s job was at stake so they picked up and moved lock stock and barrel to a distant land called Greece.

Now this may all seem rather fairytale like to you, however to the family she left behind, it is no less than tragic; it was not a surprise mind you, but still an unpardonable move for aging parents and 3 siblings struggling away in these United States of America!
One just doesn’t MOVE to Greece! One VISITS Greece… takes in the sites, enjoys the olive oil soaked foods… immerses in the Greek seas… and then returns home to a "normal" life in downtown Cedarburg, where little Butcher shops await  your order for steaks cut "just so"… a town where quaint little coffee shops house chit-chatty women enjoying a quick latte’ before facing a day at home with the kids with the flu… or the Cheese Factory  now a trendy fondue dinner place called the August Weber Haus, where sisters seize the day with a marvelous bottle of wine  and bathe cheese chunks in a marvelous sauce in the built in fondue at the bar…tended by a marvelous staff…

Alrightalready! Enough of that! Really what I’m trying to say is…WE MISS OUR SISTER, DAUGHTER, AUNT, NEICE, and FRIEND, and look forward to her swift return, even if for a brief time of fellowship and thanksgiving! For after that she will have to return to her new home in Greece, where her husband and his family reside.

So enjoy your sisters while you can! Family is so very important. I know my sister is terribly homesick and longs to enjoy her family and the country of her roots again, if only for a brief time. We’ll be blessed when that day comes… and look forward to the day we can say to her no longer so little ones… HOW BIG YOU’VE GROWN! Maybe we can slow that growth a bit with a little WINDEX??
